Our solar system contains many space rocks. Some smaller ones are called meteoroids['mi:tjərɔɪdz] . If one of these falls into Earth's atmosphere, it will heat up and start to shine. The bright line we see is the hot air left behind the burning rock. This is called a meteor[ˈmiːtiə(r)]. When Earth encounters many at once, it's a meteor shower. There are around 21 showers every year, with most of them occurring between August and December. Cameras around the world have recorded these falling objects. Although some eventually hit the ground, most of them burn off, and the remaining pieces often fall into the ocean.

Never Too Late
