PART B

M: Hi, Mary. I heard you have just won the Teen Designer of the Year award. Congratulations!

W: Thanks, Tom.

M: Unless I’m mistaken, this isn’t your first award, is it?

W: You’re right, it’s not, but it’s the first award I’ve won for my fashion designs. The other one was for my website and online store.

M: Is it a place where people can order clothes online?

W: Yeah. But not just that — there’s a fashion blog that I update every day, and a virtual changing room where you can upload a full-length photo of yourself and then “try on” different clothes from the store.

1学生问:When did you become interested in fashion? 你什么时候对时尚感兴趣的?

录音答:My mum used to work in the costume department of a big theatre company. She often made costumes for the actors at home, so there’d be scraps of material lying around the house. I made my first clothes with them.

2学生问:Have you always wanted to be a fashion designer? 你一直都想成为一名服装设计师吗?

录音答:Well, anything beautiful attracts me — literature, architecture, and even cars! I suppose I could have done anything creative in those fields. But I think fashion chose me. I mean, having that influence at home, with my mother, just gently pushed me in that direction rather than a different creative field.

3)学生问:Who are your clothes designed for? 你的衣服是为谁设计的?

录音答:My brand is probably the most affordable designer brand in the country. We do focus on teens and young adults — that’s why the clothes are fairly priced. There’s no point in designing for young people if they can’t afford to buy the clothes!

1录音问:What has Mary just won an award for?

学生答:Her fashion designs.

2)录音问:What does Mary update every day?

学生答:A fashion blog.

3)录音问:Where did Mary’s mum use to work?

学生答: In the costume department of a big theatre company.

4)录音问:What pushed Mary to choose fashion?

学生答:Her mother’s influence.

5)录音问:Why are Mary’s clothes fairly priced?

学生答:Because they focus on teens and young adults.

PART C

A real-life hero

Tom had a passion for acting and loved playing the role of superheroes on stage.

One day, while walking in the park, Tom heard shouts coming from a nearby lake and rushed towards them.

Then he saw a group of children struggling in the water.

Without a second thought, Tom dived into the lake and started swimming towards the struggling children.

He managed to reach the children and pulled them to safety, one by one.

The children were grateful for Tom’s help and thanked him for saving their lives.

The local news published Tom’s story and everyone in town praised Tom for his brave act.

Tom was surprised, but he was happy that he could make a difference and save lives.

He was inspired to become a better person, and he continued to help others in need.

From that day on, Tom no longer saw himself as just an actor pretending to be a superhero.

He became a real-life hero.

Tom’s career took off too.

He became a successful actor, but his proudest moment was still that day he saved those children.
